I use a 6500, have had it for about 2+ years and having a ball with it. I added a Jackson Labs GPSDO mainly just to be dead nuts balls accurate and because I could. Most if not all of these can also be used to create time servers such that when operating portable you could have a timing reference for FT8.

I'm finding a few products out there that today would be less expensive alternative to my Jackson http://www.jackson-labs.com/index.php/products/lc_xo_plus_kit at $600+ such as

at $170 (friend is using this one on his IC7610) https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-10MHZ-SINE-WAVE-GPS-DISCiPLINED-CLOCK-GPSDO-with-LCD-Display-Frequency/263627123794?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

at $90 https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-10MHz-Sinwave-PLL-GPSDO-GPS-DISCIPLINED-OSCILLATOR-adapter-GPS-ANT/2620...

What other GPSDO products or projects are out there?

From the hardware reference manual...

The radio can use the external 10MHz reference, the optional GPSDO reference, the internal TCXO reference, or choose among them automatically. When set to automatic mode, the radio prioritizes the reference signals in External, GPSDO and TCXO order. In automatic mode, the radio watches for the appearance or disappearance of reference signals and chooses the highest priority available signal. In manual mode, the radio uses the selected input whether a signal is present or not.
