What computer are you running and which version of Windows. Make sure that SmartCAT and SmartSDR are not running. I got a message similar to this last week when trying to install a different program and had to turn off antivirus when installing the other program.

When I have problems loading a program (seems to be frequent these days), I do the following: 1) do a complete uninstall of the old software, 2) erase the installation program, 3) re-download the installation program, 4) turn off antivirus, 5) reinstall, 6) turn antivirus back on. Make sure that you power cycle the radio as per the instructions. Hopefully that will work Burt!

This appears to be a Windows permissions / access issue, but it is hard to tell because Windows provides oh so informative error messages (not).

If you are running any type of malware suites, virus scanning or Internet security suites, disable them before running the Installer.

And when you start the installer, right click and run as administrator.  The installer is designed to elevate the rights automatically, but it looks like something may be preventing that from happening.

And lastly, you could try re-downloading the installer before starting all this.  It could be one of the files in the payload did not unpack correctly.

I am running 1.4 on my desktop OK except Fldigi won't connect with DAX, but I had problems with that on 1.38. When I first ran 1.4 all the bands were dead and the SWR was through the roof. I later observed the antenna it was hooked to had the coax separate from the center insulator. Using another antenna it seems to be OK, except I got a terrible report from DK5DR on SSB but later got a fine report from a PA3 and it sounded ok on my KX3.

When I ran 1.38 last month on my laptop I got the same exception error so my laptop has not been used on my Flex. The virus, malware was disabled. I have had errors on my hard drive in the last few months. I also can't get Team viewer to run on the laptop.

Re: the desktop: I doubt it. Sometimes DAX/CAT works OK, other times the tab disappears on the task bar when I try and use it or see its parameters. The only thing that ever got it to work was to go to Task Manager and end process and re-start them both but now that is not working.

I don't know if you use Team Viewer that might work if someone from Flex tried it to see

re: laptop
The laptop is the one with exception errors. I think that, for now has real issues that I cannot ascertain the problem.

Your initial post is about a setup error and now you are talking about something altogether different referring to different issues on different computers.  I can't really help if you keep moving the target by adding information that is not specific to the problem asked.

As best as I can determine, It kind of sounds like you have a really sick laptop.  It may not be fixable unless you do a new operating system install on a wiped and tested drive.  Unfortunately doing any type of PC operating system support other than providing a few helpful recommendations is out of scope for FlexRadio support.

You are totally right I put two problems in the same thread. Let's forget the exception error problem. I agree about the laptop, it is sick and out of the realm of what you are expected to do. Speaking of exceptions I have followed about 1000 messages re: 1.4, you are going way over what any reasonable person would expect you to do as a representative of Flex. No other company EVER would do as you have done.

When the fire dims on 1.4 I will post the problem I have with DAX here and maybe you can help.

No Bill, things are not fine on the desktop. I have a CAT/DAX problem. But I will wait until Tim has more time to deal with it as I am OK using other modes, for now.

Good work Burt, never know what people are dealing with at home. I have a good friend on a 6500. He is not good with software and computers. I wondered how he would do on this update. We met up on the air on 40M and on his very first key up he sounded very good, then we fine tuned his EQ and he sounds wonderful. I was really hoping he didn't have trouble, everything went perfect for him.
