Do the internal speaker and external speaker (jack) remain enabled when a headphone is plugged in?

I use a headset with electret mic, external speakers and a dynamic mic. I will have to build or buy a mic switch since I understand there is a single mic input on the 6400M.

However I am curious if the internal speaker can be set to remain active while there is a headphone plugged into the headphone jack. As an add-on question does plugging in an external speaker silence the internal speaker?

Both the speakers and the headphone can be active at the same time.

Now that I have a 6400M, I note that both the speakers and the headphone are active at the same time. A follow-on question: how can I mute the 6400M internal speaker when I plug the headphones in the rear-panel headphone jack per 29.3 of the User Guide?

The only way I found is to goto the menu and select the Disable box for the Front Speaker to turn it off.

The powered speaker output is a stereo 1/8 inch jack, so yes, you would normally use stereo, but I’m sure you can listen to left or right, or merge them externally.

Hi Arnold, I have the Creative T10 speakers that I found on Amazon. They seem to be reasonably RFI resistant. They are rugged enough to bring to Field Day (they have a metal grid over the speakers). Some speakers have an unprotected speaker cone, so watch out for that. They sound great and have plenty of volume. I use one of the cheap ground-loop breakers that I got on Amazon. It is just a 1:1 audio transformer and costs in the vicinity of $10.

I started with some old, no-brand amplified computer speakers and they were unusable on some bands due to RFI and they did not have much volume.

I hear good things about the Bose speakers, but I don't have any experience with them.
