DAX 1.0.3 Installation.

I have been unable to get DAX to work with SSDR 1.1.0. The receive functions work but I am unable to get the transmit to work.

I am running SSDR on a WIN7 Pro desktop. I have installed SSDR several times including "As Administrator". Every time the installation completes I get an error message saying there is a problem with the DAX audio drivers and to be sure that some other device is not using the drivers.

I have FLdigi set up and it operated successfully with 1.0.24. Now when I try to run FLdigi the receive works fine but I can not get any audio on the transmit side. Yes I have gone to the FLdigi config for sound cards and set up the RX and TX devices. The DAX devices are listed in the drop down menus 4 different time. There is a list of the DAX devices, then they are listed as MME devices, Windows DirectSound devices and as Windows WDM-KS devices. I have tried different DAX channels and different device lists but get the same results on all of them. The red level indicator on the DAX control panel shows the receive levels but I cannot not get any indication of audio on the transmit side.

When I try to transmit the radio goes into the TX mode but there is no output, ie. no audio input to the transmitter.

I have run out of things to try. Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem. I finally just gave up. Receive works but xmit does not. I have ran out of things to try. On xmit I get pulsating output or no output. I have tried several different digital programs with same results. It all worked on prior version.

I have found that these steps always help me get things installed properly.

    1) uninstall all virtual ports created by the previous version of CAT.

    2) Close all other programs, including DAX, CAT & SmartSDR before you try to install the new version.

    3) Completely uninstall SmartSDR, CAT & DAX before you try to install the new versions.

    4) Reboot the computer again after the above are finished.

    5) Do a complete Factory Reset of the 6000

    6) Install SmartSDR & let it install the CAT installer

    7) Boot up your 6000 and Run SmartSDR and let it update the rig

    8) Go to the start menu and run the CAT installer

    9) Go to the start menu and run the DAX program

    10) Set up your CAT ports

    Other things to check:

When you open a slice, and select which DAX channel you want to use, open the DAX Control panel and click the RX and TX buttons for that channel.

When you want to transmit, be sure to click the DAX button on the transmit audio control panel to tell it to use DAX.

Make sure that you have selected for your Transmit output destination "DAX Audio TX 1" (or 2-8, depending upon the channel you want) in your digital program.

    Common mistakes may include:
     - selecting "reserved" audio channels for input or output.
     - selecting the wrong DAX channel in your software
     - Selecting the wrong DAX channel in your slice pull down menu
     - Selecting I/Q audio channels for TX or RX when you want a single audio line.
     - failing to adjust the slider on the DAX channel
     - failure to turn on DAX in the TX audio panel
     - Failure to activate the RX & TX buttons in the DAX Control panel.
     - trying to have more than one program / audio source connected to the same DAX Channel
     - failure to properly assign audio properties to each DAX channel in the record/playback section of your windows sound properties

The above are a few that I have made myself, or heard that others have made and been mystified by them.  When discovered, most of them require a solid "forehead thump!"

    Good luck!

I just'got my 6700 back from Austin today where I had it re-calibrated due to low power output on most bands.I thus did not have the opportunity to install SSDR version 1.1 until this afternoon. I also received the error message about DAX audio drivers, but DAX seems to be working fine with WSJT-X on both transmit and receive. I have not tried Fldigi yet as I rarely use it. I am using DAX Channel 1 for both transmit and receive.

I did have to set up a new COM port for PTT and wonder if somehow that could be the problem with Paul's setup.

    Ken,

Thanks for the extensive checklist. As I read through it I was sure that I had done everything in the right order. So, I completely uninstalled SSDR 1.1.0, SmartCat and DAX. Then rebooted the computer and followed your instructions including checking for the "common mistakes."

I am not sure what I was doing wrong, but DAX is now working in both RX and TX.

    Thanks again,

    Paul W5PF

I had this problem with my initial upgrade to 1.1. I had to uninstall all dax drivers and reboot before installing 1.1.
