DAX Problems

I seem to have dug myself a big hole and jumped in with both feet!  I am running Windows 10 version 1809 on a Microsoft Surface Book laptop (not the tablet).

I have been having trouble with DAX ever since a Windows update a while ago.   I religiously followed Neal’s instructions here:https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/most-common-fix-for-dax-driver-errors-in-windows-sp... but I still had some odd behaviour like missing ports etc.

Having decided to install CWSkimmer, I needed to use DAX IQ for the first time.  When I tried to select it in the DAX application, I got a driver error.  I had read Art’s post here: https://community.flexradio.com/flexradio/topics/dax-again and decided to perform a complete uninstall and re-installation of SMartSDR v2.4.9.

I followed Tim’s instructions ( https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204975589-How-to-do-a-Complete-uninstall-of-SmartSD...) to the letter and uninstalled everything.  I also uninstalled all the ghost DAX and COM ports using the instruction provided here: https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/200883925-Removing-Hidden-or-Ghosted-Com-ports

I rebooted and performed a reinstallation.  After installation, I rebooted, powered up my Flex 6700 and tried to start SmartSDR.  I received a message saying that SmartSDR CAT requires the FlexRadio Systems FlexVSP driver to be installed.  So I tried another reinstallation which seemed to have worked.  Why it had not installed FlexVSP the first time is a mystery.

After the second reinstallation, I was able to set all my CAT ports etc.up without error.  However, I seem to be unable to use DAX at all!  I still get a DAX Driver Error.  I have checked on SSDR that I have DAX selected for Slice A, for TX and DAXIQ selected from the left hand menu.  This is the error:

Looking in device manager at the Audio Inputs and Outputs, I see this:

Does this look right?  I am unsure whether I am right back where I started with odd DAX settings as mentioned in Neal's post.

I followed the procedure here: https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204017069-How-to-Manually-Re-Install-DAX-Drivers and manually reinstalled the DAX drivers.  I still get the same error but now all my DAX stuff has disappeared from device manager!

Any advice would be very gratefully received - or should just open a ticket and get someone with more knowledge than me have a look at the configuration?

Later update ... I bought Revo Uninstaller Pro and applied it to SmartSDR and all its components.  I then went through the ghost port removal procedure (as above) and rebooted.

I then re-installed SSDR v2.4.9, rebooted and tried again ... It seems to have cured my problems!  My DAX settings in Device Mgr now look much better:

Is this how they are supposed to look? I think perhaps it is so perhaps Revo Uninstaller is the answer ...

Well, you had better luck than I. Did everything except using Revo. Still no joy. Last time this went south on me Jay N05L jumped it and got me fixed up. Guess I'll be doing a ticket.

I'm can still be found in the Flexradio IRC channel, when I'm in the shack, and still willing to help.

Thanks to Jay, again, for fixing my mangled drivers. A Windows update got past me and buggered them all up, tried to fix them my self but forgot a step. So again thanks, Jay.

David,

Your DAX list looks correct now.  I had similar DAX issues with an 1803 cumulative update a couple of months back, inc the FlexVSP installation peculiarity.

I normally hold off Windows updates on my Home Edition, so that I can uninstall the Flex environment prior to manually enabling the updates.  If you want to discuss further send me an email

Thanks John.  I think that is very sound advice!
