For several days following the new install all seemed fine but now I receive a report on boot up, even before loading SSDR, advising that “an error has occurred while trying to open a DAX sound device”. Seems this is a fairly common problem.
Sometimes DAX works OK and WSJT-X, etc. are fine, although I still get a “Driver Error” in the Mic Stream setting in the DAX control panel. Other times, nothing works and in the DAX control panel TX Stream: Not connected. Mic Stream: Driver Error. RX Stream 1: Not connected.
I’ve removed then reinstalled SSDR numerous times (including removing the DAX drivers), installing both as Administrator and not. I’ve tried using SSB into a dummy load and using the monitor function it sounds find thru my headphones. That’s despite the Mic Stream showing a driver error. It is inconsistent.
One of the annoying things is that it was working perfectly for several days, then decided not to play ball. Usually uninstalling and reinstalling, rebooting solves most of these inexplicable errors, but not in this case. It may be associated with a Windows ‘Sound’ setting, I’m not sure.
I know this has come up before and looking back thru earlier posts I’m not sure what is the definitive solution...
Any suggestions welcome!

ssdr leaves behind traces from previous installs
you need to completely remove the hidden devices that remain when you have done the uninstall
cheers

I'm going around in circles at the moment, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc. so I'm at a bit of a loss as to what I should do next. Very frustrating!
Any more suggestions would be welcome!

I just went through those issues this week with FRS Dudley;he managed to resolve it in less than 2 minutes.
The first thing you have to do is to download Tim's Win10 how to remove FVSP. However, if he has not updated the instructions that tells you how and where to install VSP.
The VSP instructions are on the (in my case) C:\ drive inside SmartSDR v1.7.30 were the VSP driver are located.!!!
I wasted several days installing, removing and re-install all the Flex software; following Tim's instructions:
I placed a HelpDesk request. However, as I said before, Dudley remote control using TeamViewer and went directly to the SmartSDR folder and solved my issue.

DAX has nothing to do with VSP. flexVSP fix was for SmartSDR Cat issue.
See my other respomse for DAX issue.

Look in the system tray in toolbar near cllock in lower roght corner of your desktop for the speaker icon. You may need to click the little up arrow.
Right click the speaker icon and choose playback devices. Make sure a DAX device is not set for default. Mine is Speakers - High Definition audio device.
To change it if speakers is not default click Speakers and then Set Default.
On top click Record tab and do the same making sure microphone - High Definition Audio Device is set as default.
See of that helps.

If DAX has nothing to do with VSP, I guess the blue screen there was just a red herring.
If all else fails I might have to see if I can set up a TeamViewer session with someone; I'm sure it is simply resolvable, especially as originally it worked perfectly.
I'd appreciate any further input anyone might have!

It says great things about the support Flex offer as well as to individuals giving up their time and using their expertise to help a fellow ham.

We found both DAX and CAT issues.
CAT - VSPManager and FlexVSP were both installed. We did a complete uninstall of SmartSDR, CAT, and DAX as per the Help Desk article, I opened VSPManager and deleted all virtual port pairs then uninstalled VSPManager. Rebooted PC.
I cleaned phantom audio devices and serial ports from Device Manager and rebooted the PC.
I then installed SmartSDR 1.7.30.
After installing I found the SmartSDR DAX MIC Audio device would not install. I finally used this procedure to force the driver to install in Windows 10 x64:
Open an elevated command window Run hdwwiz.cpl to start Device Manager
Click Audio inputs and outputs
On top click Actions
Click Add legacy hardware
Click Next
Select Install the hardware that I manually select from a list
Click Next
Scroll down and select Sound, Video and game controllers
Click Next
Click Have disk
Browse to the folder with the driver INF (example C:\Program Files\FlexRadio Systems\SmartSDR v1.7.30\64-bit Drivers\MICAudio_DAX
Select the inf file (example SmartSDR_MICAUDIO_DAX.inf) and click Open
Click Next
Click Next to install driver
Click Finish

Flex trouble shooters are pretty sharp. If you open a help desk ticket, I bet ya they will get you squared away.

also "You seem to hate help tickets. I like them because I have had zero dax issues." ... what ?? lol

Are you loading the beta builds of Windows 10 by chance?
I have found the Windows 10 upgrades break the DAX device enumeration. This is something that can be fixed via TeamViewer if you need assistance.
Prior to loading each new build of Windows 10 I delete any virtual com ports, close DAX and CAT then uninstall SmartSDR completely. After the Win10 upgrade I reinstall the latestSmartSDR with both DAX and CAT then create needed virtual serial ports.

There are many of us that are not having issues and others that do. I've personally helped quite a few people who had corrupted DAX drivers resulting from a Windows upgrade. Windows does not properly enumerate virtual devices during Windows updates.
Rob if you want help email me direct. My email is good on QRZ

I hear you but ive read quite a lot of post that were cut short without any real fix because the admin said it was "fixed" simply not true.. I really don't like the way things are done here..
as to my issue, I have tried win 7, win 10, vista, back to 10 ( terrible os on a pc) but now its finally working, ! well it was until i just updated to the new smartSDR 1.8.. alas FLDIGI is not working now due to the live mic "improvement"
flex is a nice radio When it works !
