CW Skimmer Newbie question

I am new to CW skimmer and have something messed up. It was working to start and stopped working correctly. Possibly when I installed Bandmaster.

Anyway my decode is not lined up with my actual signal. And its not constantly off X khz either.

The red arrow shows the signal that the Flex is tuned to. As you can see the little green decode thing is not in that spot.

I am sure I am doing something stupid. Can someone set me straight?

73 and happy new year

If you click on the signal in Skimmer the radio will follow to that freq. and Skimmer will decode that signal... tuning the Flex does not change where the Skimmer decides... its the other way Skimmer tunes the Flex

The same issue happens in reverse though. If I click the decode in skimmer the radio shifts in frequency so I am not hearing what I am decoding in CW skimmer.

Anywhere in the signal streams.
Going by memory, no radio right now but it does work.

Not sure what you mean by tones?  I assume you are talking about 600hz?

Its not anywhere close. I moves to a frequency several KHZ off what I click on to decode.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. So here is a video. Better yet :)

You can clearly see in video except on one time it never got anywhere near a signal on the Flex.

Thanks for your help guys. Clay I tried the mouse shake thing with no help.  Its moving the Flex frequency but is not in right spot.

Here is another video.  I moved up the band to a dead spot with one really slow sending CW station.  The flex was copying him fine. You can see the station above the decode marker on CW skimmer. When I click the signal on the waterfall on CW skimmer it moves the Flex up the band away from his frequency. Each click moves it that much further up the band.

I had a similar problem. go to skimmer and click on view at the top of the skimmer screen. you will see frequency calibration. click on this. you will see displayed frequency and true frequency. Make sure your transciever is calibrated to wwv. I use the broadcast wwv on 5mhz. Once you have done this, seet the skimmer true frequency to the frequency your radio displays. This should bring skimmer back into alignment with your radio. This is waht I did from what I recall.

Hope this helps.

Just realized the actual frequency is following the decoder on CW skimmer (orange arrow) but the actual CW signal is showing up in wrong spot.  So I am guessing the audio frequency is shifted in the Flex>DAX>CW Skimmer chain somewhere.

Mike (ab4kj), just got a message that there was a response to this thread.

I think you are right. But my frequency calibration is greyed out.

I have a "tune at" under commands menu.  I cant find anything in the documentation about this. I found a signal on the CW skimmer waterfall and then used tune at to set the frequency. If fixed the issue but seemed to break again after clicking around on a dozen stations.

WWV is spot on.

According to manual "Frequency calibration is supported for the SDR-IQ, QS1R, HPSDR Mercury and Perseus radios"

I am running Softrock IQ. Assume that is correct.

Rich, I use SDR IQ. I do believe soft rock is supported by skimmer. If you look under the settings tab for skimmer, it gives two choices for softrock. Just guessing, but if you are set to soft rock IF, calibration might not work. Try the other soft rock setting. Other than that, cant help. Alex with Afreet, the designer of skimmer might be able to help you if you send him an email. I believe his contact is the afreet web site where you purchase skimmer.

Mike,

I tried Softrock as well and same issue.  If I set it to 3khz radio it does work with limited bandwidth of course.

I did fill out a support request on the afreet site about an hour ago.

On a side note, I just pulled out my Sark 110 antenna analyzer to use as a signal generator and test frequency. Realized you could modulate CW with it and the CW skimmer decodes it. How cool is that !

Rich,

I found an old post you might want to explore for grins.

I know not your exact issue but maybe take a different look at your setup.

I read that post.  In my case that just flipped the error to the opposite side. I have it working now but have no clue what it was that fixed it.  I stripped CW skimmer off and reloaded SDR bridge and after messing around a bit it took off.

As a FYI for anyone using Omni Rig apps, make sure you start them with admin privileges. That is the only way I was able to get Omni rig to multi-thread with CW skimmer and Log4OM, etc.

As I mentioned above I was surprised by my Sark 110. Had no clue I could modulate a signal with CW.

The CW on the flex and skimmer is coming from my Sark antenna analyzer.
