When keying the Flex 6500 transmitter with a key plugged into the 6500, is it normal to see on the panadapter not only a peak at the selected transmit frequency but also side lobes at about plus/minus 6 kHz from the main peak, attenuated by something like 40 dB?

Les:  On my 6700 they are more like 80 db down from the peak.   73, Tom K1FR

Yes, what you are describing is normal.

    Tim,

Thanks for the quick response. My next question is somewhat delayed because I was in Korea last week.

What is the cause of the sidebands at about plus/minus 6 kHz from the main carrier? Does it represent an actual transmitted signal or is it a receiver anomaly?

They are artifacts from receiving the transmitted signal internally in the radio.  They are NOT transmitted as RF, hence my characterization as being artifacts.
