CW debouncing ...

I once reported that I thought the debouncing scheme on CW was flawed and essentially unusable using my old Vibroplex 'Bug' keyer. I wrote a small routine using an Arduino board to properly debounce and deliver a clean signal to use CW keying on my Flex.

I am pleased to report that something has dramatically changed. The input is now being debounced correctly and my keying has miraculously improved. Just me and my venerable 60 year-old keying device .. straight into the CW jack.

Anyone previously perturbed with the their CW on their Flex should give it another go.

I can now send over 100 wpm. Nothing decipherable however!

Dan, would you elaborate on the debounce issue? I use an ARRL centennial keyer. I am not sure what vibroplex that is but at ~28-30 I wasn't aware there was an issue.

Walt, the contact bounce on my Vibroplex bugs is so severe that the Flex debounce scheme did not handle it ideally. I believe they have reviewed the firmware and made some changes that have benefited my CW greatly.

If your bug has a scratch, itch it.

I use silver polish on occasion to clean the contacts and between use a paper based wiping "cloth".

I did not know that, thanks Dan and Tim. Prior to my serial # vibroplex my keyer was the Heathkit micromatic. It developed issues so when ARRL advertised the centennial keyer, it was a worthy cause.

Walt, we are talking about different keyers. My Vibroplex bug is the mechanical, and recalcitrant, beast developed in the early 1900's. I believe your new keyer uses the iambic mode which is a different animal. The contact bounce is horrendous and can be difficult to tame.

I found this entry in the latest changelog. I assume it is responsible for the improvements I have noticed. Something surely has changed for the better.
