Cheap Digital Solution

For those who may not own a SignaLink USB and don't want to purchase one for a short term solution, you may consider this: Griffin Tech iMic USB + Heil Mic Input AD-1-Y, two stereo patch cords http://www.amazon.com/Griffin-Technology-7725-IUAI-Audio-Interface/dp/B003Y5D776/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375917673&sr=8-1&keywords=griffin+imic http://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-003267 This isn't as versatile as a SignaLink solution, but can be repurposed easily after the DAX solution is rolled out. You can use CAT for PTT control. I have tested this setup with DM780, JT65, EasyPal, JT9, and FreeDV with success.

Audio input can come from either the front or rear connector audio out. This lets you attach a speaker to the other to monitor still. SSDR is set with COMP off, EQ off, and the gain is about 30-40 for me. You want to target the mic input to where the audio level is right under or near 0dB. PTT should be triggered via your digital software's CAT interface to SmartCAT. The iMic LineIn/Mic switch should be set to Line.
