CAT Ports Deleted

This is second time in 2 weeks, I rebooted my computer and SmartSDR for the Flex 6600 and all my CAT ports assigned to WSJTX and to a modem are wiped out. How does one go about starting with editing or recovering the ports assigned previously. I can only create new ports. This is really frustrating!

After a BSOD, (thanks Microsoft!)...I had the same problem. All CATS gone!

Luckily, I had a screen shot of the CATS before I lost them.

Maybe someone else has a better idea...but I did this....
-Ran Flex VSP to reset the Flex CATs....
-Had a print-out of my previous CATs....
    -Created (recreated) my previous CATs...

After recreating the CATS, I saved a copy of CAT. settings. They are in the Flex Systems directory. The next time, I will be prepared!

    Good luck.

Same thing happened to me 4 weeks ago. I had to recreate the ports. Here's the post and some information about the location of the settings file.

Everyone.  When you loose your CAT listing ,  SmartCAT does come up,  but the listing is not there,  normally it is because the CAT the CAT.settings file has not been read into SmartCAT .  This is the file that keeps the profile of your ports that you had set up previously.   This file is just a text file in your C:Users<your user name >AppDataRoamingFlexRadio Systems   folder.   You can force SmartCAT to re-read that file if you go to the bottom right corner of   the  SmartCAT  console window and   RIGHT click on  "Remove"   you will see the  "Reset FlexVSP Ports"     This normally will bring back the ports listing again ..   Give it a couple of minutes ,   just in case there are some ghosted ports that have to be resolved..    Port conflicts could also be a problem in Device Manager (Show Hidden ports "On"  in Device Manager window)   Sometimes reboots are required and should be tried first ..    Resolving port issues is usually the last thing that Windows try to correct when rebooting ,  so be sure to give the computer plenty of time to fix it on it's own..    Patience is a virtue !

I would recommend you backup your SmartSDR-Win settings files and when you suffer from a BSOD or any other form of crash that takes out either your CAT, DAX, SSDR or all three of them then its a very simple case of locating your working backup setting files closing SmartSDR-Win and coping them over the existing settings files found in the below folder and then restart SmartSDR-Win, bingo your back up and running.

SmartSDR-Win setting files can be located here:

C:Users*youruserID*AppDataRoamingFlexRadio Systems (replace *youruserID* with the ID you are logged onto your computer with.

Within this folder you will find SamrtSDR-Win settings files for CAT,DAX & SSDR

    CAT.Settings

    DAX.settings

    SSDR.settings

If your recovering from a crash and don’t have these files then once you have gone through the pain of reconfiguring your SmartSDR-Win then take a copy to protect yourself from future crashes – as there will be more crashes down the road.

I lose my CAT & DAX ports quit frequently and have come to rely on the above procedure to get me out of jail very quickly. Hope this helps.

I did the reset as you suggested, it did not bring back the ports I had assigned previously. Now I'm back to reconfiguring everything.

The applications show the ports, however when I open CAT I'm only able to create new ports and not able to assign the ones I see under the application drop down window. Why is it so complicated, I don't get it. There is no drop down on the port in CAT and create a port of your own known port.

I dont want to spend my time trobleshooting software.  I have two 6600Ms and this kind of continual software glitches is driving me away and making me consider less sophisticated radio optios.
