Can't Remove FabulaTech com port

I'm trying to remove all of SmartSDR 2.4.9 from a Windows 10 computer that I will no longer be using with my Flex 6700. In the device manager I see to devices under Other devices "FabulaTech_VirtualPort_05 and FabulaTech_VirtualPort_105. They are not hidden devices. If I used device manager to uninstall them, as soon as I reboot or scan for hardware changes, they come back.

Have you tried to remove them with DAX?
On my Win10 notebook I had to change com ports and could remove them without any traces left.

I assume you mean remove them with SmartCAT. That has worked in that past, but didn’t work this time.

Oh, sorry, yes I meant CAT, hi... Did reinstalling and then removing with CAT work? These virtual cables are tricky, especially with Win10.
You could try the COM port arbiter: https://www.uwe-sieber.de/misc_tools_e.html#arbiter
Or the Helpdesk: https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/200883925?mobile_site=true&_ga=2.199786222.1397...
There also is a FabulaTech forum https://www.fabulatech.com/forum/
If you can't find a solution there, I recommend opening a ticket with Flex support.

I have been trying to do the same thing because I was getting two COM 15 ports, one was a USB port created by my RT21 connected to a USB cable, the other was a Flex Radio Virtual Serial Port.  To resolve the situation I had to completely uninstall SmartSDR and FlexVSP AND rename the  CAT.settings file that was deep inside my USERS folder.  I rebooted with only the two RT-21 rotators and the two SDA-100 SteppIR control boxes and the Flex Control Knob connected to the computer.  After rebooting DEVICE MANAGER only showed 5 COM ports....
COM 222   (the Flex Control Knob)
COM 12     (the RT-21 rotator for the 4 ele SteppIR)
COM 13     (the SDA-100 for the 4 ele SteppIR)
COM 15     (the RT-21 rotator for the DB-18)
COM 16     (the SDA-100 for the DB-18)

Everything worked, so I next re-installed Smart SDR, and it automatically made 2 new virtual COM ports.  I have no idea what these new virtual COM ports(COM 14 and COM 17) are for.  As a point of interest, these new virtual COM ports start out in DEVICE MANAGER as Fabula Tech virtual COM ports and in a few second disappear and reappear as Flex Radio COM ports.

I wish Flex would tell us what these unknown Virtual COM ports are used for so we could stay away from them.  They must be associated with Flex since they are not created until SmartSDR is installed and run.

I was at least successful in stopping two COM 15 ports from being created (so far).

You could change COM ports in CAT and watch what happens in the registry.
There should be changed values here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\SERIALCOMM
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\FABULATECH\VSP
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\FABULATECH\VSP

If you reinstall SmartSDR CAT, you can right click on the Remove button to do a reset.  This will remove all FlexVSP ports before reinstalling the defaults.  You can then remove the default ports and then uninstall SmartSDR and I think you would be home free.  It's worth a shot.

Eric,

That didn't seem to do anything. I may have traced the problem to the FlexRadio Virtual Serial Port Kit service. If I stop the service and set start to manual and delete the bogus serial ports, they don't seem to come back.  However, per your suggestion and re-installed SmartCAT and uninstalled it and the ports are back.

Also, if I do reinstall SmartCAT and try to create a serial port, I get an error message.

Where does the Virtual Serial Port Kit service store the ports that it creates? Perhaps if I delete that file...

Should doing a complete uninstall of SmartSDR remove this service? it doesn't seem to.

I have not tried it with the latest version of SmartCAT but I always had good luck un-installing the SmarCAT and the Serial ports running "IOBIT" Uninstaller program.
YMMV

Mark,

You have to reinstall or repair the FlexVSP driver so that Windows has a valid driver for the ports.  Then do the procedure Eric recommended.

Tim,

I have tried reinstalling SmartSDR. Is there another to reinstall the FlexVSP drivers?

Mark,

If you want to completely uninstall SmartSDR and FlexVSP,  follow the procedure that is on the Help Desk,

https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204975589-How-to-do-a-Complete-uninstall-of-SmartSD...

Now if you re-install SmartSDR ,  when FlexVSP installs,  it will need to install one set of com ports,  make sure that you have to other com ports active so that the scan is avoid the previous created ports,   but FlexVSP / Virtual Serial port Service   will install the first default at the first available port pair (starts at com4 and com104).   Be sure to reboot the computer before using .

That got it. I think the trick was deleting the SmartSDR folder. The instructions may be a little out of date. They talk about uninstalling FlexVSP, but I couldn't find the uninstaller. Is FlexVSP now automatically uninstalled with SmartSDR?

The Flex Virtual Serial Port service is still installed, but set to manual start. How do I remove that?

The installer at

  "C:\Program Files\Flexradio Systems\FlexVSP\FlexVSPInstaller_64.msi"

is also the uninstaller, right click it and you will see options to install, repair, or uninstall it.

Uninstalling that way should remove the service from the machine.

Use Revo to remove all traces of 2.4.9. It is a free program that I have used for years.
