Can I connect my 6600 directly to my computer with a normal CAT5 cable? I am having a strange problem and I would like to eliminate the router as a possible cause.

Thanks,

Yes, Cat cable directly to the PC Ethernet port is fine.

In general, yes, you can.  Many uses have done this with excellent results.

Usually the only drawback is that it is more difficult to provide the Flex rig access to the internet.

There have been a few cases where the local computer's particular ethernet port doesn't like the direct connection.  Many users have fixed this with an inexpensive 5-port ethernet hub.

In my case, I put the hub in the shack and have run a CAT6 cable to the router on the other end of the house.  Then I plug both my Flex-6500 AND my computer into the hub so that both of them have connection to the internet.

Thanks everyone. This is only for a test situation to see if it helps with my problem and not a permanent thing. I will not need internet access.
