There are CAT commands though.

I use the record and play commands programmed in DDUtil, I execute them with a Genovation keypad.

It can be done with other devices like that midi mixer device, I forgot its name but you get the idea?

Keyboard, no doesn't work like that.

This is not done via CAT, but using the API

As Tim said, it is done through the API.

Using DDUtil I use the following macro (I am pasting the whole syntax of the macro)
DD6SAR Slice Audio Record On/Off
Form: DD6SAR P1 P2 P3 ;
Parm: P1 = Slice to set (1 char 0-7 {A-H} & 9 for active slice.)
Parm: P2 = Separator (1 char {':' recommended})
Parm: P3 = {0|1} 0 = Off, 1 = On
Uses: DD6SAR0:1; Enables the slice 0 audio record

I then have a macro set up in DDUtil for record on and another for record off, then have 2 buttons on the Genovation keypad mapped.

Yep the API, was going by what I could remember when I got it all working on my 6300 less than a week before I traded it back in July.  Sorry for the misstatement.

Pouring through the API list I quickly got familiar with DDUTil, a new Virtual USB Genovation keypad and Denkovi 8 relay board that I wired to my SixPak antenna switch. Plus numerous other key assignments that make operating even easier.

The API is referenced in the DDUTil web site as well as FRS.

Two of the keys I programed in DDUTil and access from the keypad were record and playback.  EASY PEASY on all assignments, some API commands I pulled from Howard KY6LA"s Genovation files that got me started (thanks Howard.)
I really love what these have added to my SDR setup!

Lots of info on the DDUTil web site but I must say I would not have been made totally aware of all of this magic if I had not run across the blog site of W9OY.  This guy is a wealth of information to me.  W9OY thank you for that blog site and please keep doing what you are doing.  The information just keeps pouring in.  He gives text and visual instruction on every subject under the sun as it relates to the Flex Radio 6K series.  His blog is so thorough that I have never needed to bother the man for direction.

A must read, certainly not read in a day either, so much great content!

Example to get started:

Download FRStacks and setup up a keyboard hotkey.  You will find it very useful if you take the time to learn how it functions.  I personally think it is a must have free utility if you have a Maestro or the 6400(M)/6600(M).

Would be nice if you could assign to FlexControl buttons.

I was looking for keyboard commands last week. Is it correct that Flex never implemented anything beyond the spacebar?

Not sure it would work well for me anyway as SmartSDR is rarely in focus.

The space bar is a Windows OS feature.  SmartSDR has not implemented any keyboard commands.
