Are CAT and DAX four letter words?

Tonight I had to delete all of the virtual ports and then re-install them to get them to work.  CAT was okay on COM4, but anything going through a virtual port wasn't.  This is not the first time I've had to do this.

My hope is that someone is paying attention to all of this discussion, meaning the talk about intermittent flakiness of CAT and DAX,  and that these features have a prominent spot on the drawing board.

I feel your pain. I too have experienced some funkiness related to DAX and CAT, but more the former than the latter. I have not had the rough time of it that you have, but the experience is making me not turn on my rig as often as I would like. Why? Because I hate having software issues (especially show-stoppers)  either on my PCs or with the 6300 and I just cannot leave them until they are fixed. I could turn on my rig now and all would be fine, or I could turn it on and have a VERY frustrating evening - especially as everything worked okay the last time I fired it up.

It would be nice to hear something from FRS in lieu of a fix.

Good luck, Guy

It helps if you describe your PC, Operating System, Amount of Memory, and the versions of software that are not playing well, as well as which Flex-6x00 model and any clues on what you were doing when it crashed.  It is also worth knowing how long the setup was running and what actually happens when it crashes.

I suffered with a marginal setup crashing SmartSDR/CAT/DAX/DDUTIL, which vastly improved when upgraded.  In the process of replacing the offending machine in total, which should improve things better.

The first upgrade process came out of sharing the full info, and some feedback from FRS that I might be skimpy in available system resources.

They could give an insight because they had enough data to make a diagnosis.

Just a suggestion, as it can't hurt to share enough details to make your issue actionable.

Guy you had me at fresh install. On an existing board, newly purchased? You get where I am coming from. FAX and CAT have really proved themselves very stable in my experience so far on my 6300. Please talk more about the computer and OS history. Seriously.

Good. Next is the. problem not Dax or cat.

And fresh only counts with veggies.

Let's figure it out OK. If it is flexes problem we all would be bemoaning
Cat and DAX. excluding any and all known flex problems works.
Will can it beget better I'm sure flex will tweak and tweak. Everything.

However the computer has produced glitches. 90%. Of the time.

There can be a bug in software that does not affect all users.

I don't know how you shut things, or even if you do. The blame for all your problems is Windows. The OP Sys does not enumerate the com ports correctly once you create them and reinstate them on a restart. What I do is shut the computer down and then the radio. I do not auto start SmartSDR CAT. When I turn thins back on I start Windows, the radio and then SmartSDR CAT. Everything works good after that. Hope this helps.

My Flex -6700 performance is 99% of the time.  The one per cent failure was cause by Microsoft update failure when the local power company was hit by lighting.

Since SmartSDR v1.2 my F6.7K sees DAX and CAT without having to click them on.  They see the radio automatically when the I/O switch is pushed on.

I then click on HRD v6.2 and it is automatically seeing by all the other  required software.  The rotor control, DM780, Logs etc... They functions' without my intervention; they come up and are ready for operations.

I do not use DDUtil; there is no need.  That is, unless you have amplifiers or other devices that requires a specific function not yet available from Flex.

My setup:

Flex-6700LE GPSDO - S/N2213-3088-6700-3242

Win7/64 quad core I7 16gb memory

HRD v6.2

I keep all my equipment with the latest updates

Looks like DAX is a lot more stable in the 1.38 version.
