Guess you will have to hold that breath a little longer - doesn't the presentation run for another hour or so?

Maybe Flex will be kind and post an after-dinner summary on the web page later.

Cheers

Saw a post on Facebook that the 6300 and 6500 are being replaced by higher performance radios.

"Higher performance models." Let that statement sink in for a moment....

It is hard to imagine receiver performance much better than my 6500. But the new 6600 models should have even higher RMDR and lower phase noise (is that possible?) than a 6500. Plus the 6600 has two SCU's. wow!

The FRS website should update by the Hamvention show opening.

Excellent banquet. Yes on many of my guesses.

Will look at their website update and fill in any blanks with commentary is there are gaps.

News on several fronts. Matt was quite busy taking orders!

Big news tonight on the new rigs and prices. The M models have Maestro on the front panel. Very impressive presentations tonight and they had the new rigs on display. Brochures were made available. This was a night not-to-miss!

Another first for me. Buying a radio that is a discontinued model before I get it.

If you have not received it yet, then you have he choice to get a FLEX-6400 for less money. Contact sales next week on Tuesday or later and talk through your options

Flex has a 30 day total return policy, so if you read the new brochures and decide you do not want the radio, call them and get a return number and you will get full credit - or maybe you can stop it before its shipped.  They are honorable that way . .

Cheers !

Well, not all of you. A nice lady canceled my order for the 6500 so now I can wait for the demand to ease up and look at one of the new ones. Everyone was correct. Flex Radio will take care of you.

Huge news. The new models are pretty decent and I can even see the new 6600 cutting into 6700 sales. The M models have a Maestro front panel and HDMI port. It's not detachable though.

PGXL also includes an external ATU for all 2017 orders.

Tim will probably post the spec sheet sooner rather than later but basically the biggest difference is that the 6600 has dual SCUs.

Ria,

Is the tuner included with the PGXL with or without an additional cost?

External tuner will be FREE add-on for orders made in 2017! After that, it will be a paid option.

Did they say anything about a SO2R box for the 6500/6300?

Prototype mentioned in passing, impression was it has been overtaken by the new rigs. Not happening at least for now.

I don't know this as a fact, because they haven't made any exact statements about trade-up values, but you might be able to trade up from 6500 to 6600 for close to the price of adding an SO2R box, or not much more....depending upon the ultimate price of the SO2R box and market values of 6500 post-release of the new rigs.

I have already put down a deposit on a 6600 to trade up. I was that impressed with it.

I really like my setup with my headset plugged into the front mic connector and my boom mic plugged into the rear xlr. I can switch with a click of the mouse and use either the ptt on the floor or the one on the headset. So now I think I'm back to original plan of upgrading to a 6700 later in the year.

So far, the ONLY thing I don't like about the new design is the 1/8 inch mic connector in the back. But I figure that a simple switch-box would be very easy to make, and would give me some strain relief, too.

But it didn't stop me from putting down a deposit.

Btw. I have a 'Y' connector on my rear panel PTT and can use either my foot switch or hand-held thumb-switch at any time. No switching necessary.

When you let the dust settle in your brain, the new product line is truly impressive, and their price-points are going to be very competitive. A 6400 for under $2000? Wow! A 6400M for $2999? It will be more radio and less money than a IC-7610. And the 6600 will bring in truly competitive SO2R for under $4000! $4999 if you want the built-in control surface.

The game just got very, very interesting.

Ken, did they happen to mention what ADAC's the new radios used and their sample rates? At first glance it looks as though they will kill.sales of the 6300 and 6500 if specs are the same and priced cheaper. More so, if the new radios have dual SCU's in them and the contest filters to boot!
I really like my 6500 and Maestro combo. But, seeing it possibly eclipsed by a cheaper and more capable setup, is kind od disheartening. But, that's progress! Won't be able to sell it so easy though if used prices drop like I imagine they will.if these new radios take off like they should.

James,

See the comparison table here http://www.flexradio.com/amateur-products/flex-6000-signature-series/flex-6600/

I'm a little disappointed as I purchased a 6700/Maestro last year.  Looks like a 6600 combo is about $3K less than a 6700/Maestro.  It is what it is.

Thanks Rich! Revisited the specs on my 6500 and other than the second SCU and contest filters, I really don't see enough things to make me want to sell my 6500 and Maestro and get on a waiting list for several months for a 6600M.
Heck, I might pick up a second 6500 if used prices fall enougb!

Agreed Ken, and competition is healthy. I am not too bothered if the so2r board gets dropped if the 6600 is a decent price in the uk and cheaper than the new icom.

No news on a fix for the ssdr / firmware hang up problems many of us are suffering from? I was hoping that it was just a timing issue and a desire to release new ssdr at the convention along with the new model news - but nothing so far on a maintenance release even to fix the current problems?

No specific statements made about hang-ups at the meeting. But I know that they are working on it, and am confident they will sort it out.

Will the 6600/6600M have the capability to turn on and turn off the rig remotely without external boxes?

Has the boot time for the 6600/6600M been reduced?  I can turn on my IC-7300 and it is ready in less about 5 seconds.  My 6500 takes about 45 seconds before it is ready.
