Antenna Lockout

  • Under Consideration
In my setup I have an open-wire-fed 80 meter dipole as antenna 1 and a 20 meters (other bands in the future) hex beam on antenna 2.

It would be helpful to me if I could lock out an antenna based on the selected band. For instance, I could use antenna 1 on all bands but antenna 2 could only be selected for 20 meters.

I have called an S9+ station on 40 meters a few times without response. Many times I look up and notice my SWR is pegged and I have the wrong antenna selected.   I attribute my mistake to making an assumption the automation included (profiles and persistence) has taken care of many of the settings as I change bands.

Maybe, or as an option, instead of a general lockout, it could be a TX lockout. This would allow the antenna to be used for receive on any band but prevent transmit on bands it is incapably of supporting.

Great idea, Kevin.

My KAT-500 tuner accomplishes what you suggest with the ability to choose each antenna then select which bands the antenna is allowed to be used on. It then disallows selecting an invalid antenna while on a given band.

This works well. Very helpful feature for sure.
