ACOM

Just hooked up my new ACOM 1000 to my Flex 6500 and all is
working just fine. I do have a few questions.

First I’ve noticed that the default setting of TX1 is “disabled”, while TX2 & TX3 are enabled. Nothing is, or was ever connected to TX2 & TX3. Are TX1,2,3 active jacks, where they detect something is connected? If I enable it, will this setting be saved in the Radio Profile(s)?

Regarding CW (QSK), do I need to connect the “output” trigger connection from the ACOM back to the 6500?

Last question, is there any way to trigger the TUNE function by, say a wired switch? Right now it looks like clicking TUNE on / off with the mouse is the only way. Am I missing something?

Ever since I put ddutil on my computer to interface with my OM2500A, it disables TX1 when it is run.  Saving to a profile makes no difference.  The Flex will come up with TX1 enabled, but as soon as ddutil is started, it disables TX1.  You can enable it again, and it will stay for the session, but if you get out of ddutil and comeback in, it will disable TX1 again.  We need to let the author of ddutil know about this so he can diagnose the problem.  It does not seem to be a Flex issue, but one of ddutil.

Simple fix. In DDUtil setup on the Auto Drive tab check Manual TX. Now DDUtil will not toggle the TX 1,2,3 lines.

Interesting, I know someone who know the DDUTIL guy, so I'll share this. How about if I use TX2 or TX3?

No.

Maybe.  Unles a different application connected to the radio changes the radio state.

Regarding CW (QSK), do I need to connect the “output” trigger connection from the ACOM back to the 6500?
Looking at the ACOM1000 manual, I do not see an interface for an  “output” trigger.  If you are referring to the KEY OUT, this is not for QSK.  How this interface workd electrically is not described in enough detail for me to make any suggestions on if it can work with a FLEX-6000, so I would leave it disconnected.

Last question, is there any way to trigger the TUNE function by, say a wired switch?
Nothing by hardware.  A FlexLib interface application can control TUNE.

Bob, use two buttons programmed on the Genovation keypad to execute macros for tune.

First button is TX Tune On and macro is DD6TTP015;DD6TXT1;  which sets tune power to 15 watts and keys radio in tune mode. Note the 015 is the power level which can be changed to your needs.

Second is TX Tune Off and macro is DD6TXT0; which dekeys radio.

Don't forget the semi colon after each command and commands can be stacked.

As far as CW QSK, with the Acom 2000a I just have TX1 feeding direct to the amp. To prevent hot keying I added a delay of 5 in the CWX/Settings menu. (I use keyboard CW)
