Time sync for FT8 on ipad

Made my first FT8 contacts today, using the SmartSDR for iOS FT8 tool. Amazingly easy.

  1. I presume the app sets the proper transmit levels?
  2. I received an email from one of my contacts that my clock was off 1.4 seconds. How do I precisely set the clock on my iPad for the FT8 tool?

    from apple website

once you set time zone it will stay sync'd as it then uses network time

I ran an app called Emerald time. It shows the time differential in upper right corner. My iPad was over 3 seconds off (I’m traveling to Xenia). I toggled Date & Time/Set Automatically in settings in iPad and it updated to show 1/2 second off. Normally iPad syncs to the minute, not second, so it may not update until it drifts off more than a minute.

I have used the IPad as a Flex FT8 terminal for years and never had a time synch issue.

My iPad clock time corrected after toggling off then back on the Date and Time/Set Automatically option. Good to know.

David, thanks for the tip re the Emerald Time app.
