CONFIGURATION OF THE REMOTE WITH A SPE 2KFA
Hello and thanks for taking the time to read me, I just received my Flex 520-M. I would like to set up the control for my SPE 2KFA amplifier. I did check the 520-M menu, but I didn’t see anything about the settings for the amp’s CAT. Of course, I’ve wired the ALC, I’ve also wired the PTT, I’ve wired the remote to remote on, but it’s not working. And of course, I’ve changed the configuration on my SPE --)
If you have any ideas, I’m all ears.

I'm new to the Flex Radio ecosystem, but my understanding is that the use of external amplifiers with Aurora radios is strongly discouraged (and likely void the warranty) due to the fact that you're essentially driving an amplifier with an amplifier, and things can go awry quickly. They also strongly advise against using external ALC, due to the potential for instability and oscillation, from what I understand.0

Hello and thank you for your return.
I am aware of all this, now all my antennas are connected to the amplifier, I do not want to use it in broadcast on the flexradio, I just want the flexradio to control my amplifier to get the bands on which it will work, it will not be active in broadcast.
Thank you for your feedback

I have my 6700 hooked directly to my SPE 2K-FA which works through the passthrough feature that is now in SmartSDR. In many ways is works better than the PGXL and is a more reliable amp. Like KD8MKG mentions, you'll need to positively assure that you won't overdrive the amp, but the SPE software can help with this. It will automatically set drive levels when switching the amp to operate and back. You will need a USB hub to handle the three USB cables that this setup requires. Two of these cables are used to control the amp from the Flex, one from each VFO. Dan, KC5PCB will make them up for you if you don't have them already. One cable is used to control the amp from the remote computer using the SPE software. There are a few tricks to setting all of this up but I will proceed with these instructions once you get hardware and cables.
Let me know.

Thank you Bill, I just want the flexradio 520 to order me the spe in order to change the band, and thus benefit from all my antennas that are connected to it. I don't want to use extra power but just to be able to use the cat function so that the amplifier follows the frequency of the flexradio.

Most can only handle about 200 watts, the PGXL for example.
You don't want to fry your T/R relays when trying to run 500 watts in Bypass.
